Focus and scope

Ingeniería Agrícola y Biosistemas (Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering) is a bi-annual journal offering professionals in agricultural and biosystems engineering, both national and foreign, a medium for the publication of previously-unpublished scientific and technological research results. The above means that, without exception, proposals submitted for evaluation for possible eventual publication should not have been published before, except in the form of an abstract in the memory of a scientific congress, nor should they be found in a similar process in another journal. Preliminary, incomplete or inconsequential research papers will also not be accepted.

Our journal offers an effective way to publish: scientific papers resulting from original research, review articles, and scientific or technological notes. All papers must be related to one or more of the following subject areas: environment, automation, construction, energy, geomatics, machinery, simulation and optimization of biosystems, soil, agro-food technology, animal production technology, post-harvest technology and water use in agriculture.

Contributions are received through the Editorial Manager tracking system, or by email: Manuscripts are examined by a scientific committee and evaluated anonymously by expert peers.

Ingeniería Agrícola y Biosistemas is published by the Universidad Autónoma Chapingo (Autonomous Chapingo University) twice a year: January-June and July-December.

Submission and peer review

Submission of contributions is through the Editorial Manager platform, or via email (, and the corresponding author is the one responsible for the process, and with whom communication will be maintained throughout the process. A tutorial explaining how to use this system is located on the journal’s page.

Documentation sent to the journal must include:

The manuscript must be attached in Microsoft Word® format. Tables, graphs and figures are appended separately. Graphics should be sent in TIFF or JPG image formats, with a minimum size of 945 x 945 pixels and a minimum resolution of 300 pixels per inch (300 dpi).

Note: Tables and equations must not be images; they have to be presented in an editable format.

If the paper is about a subject in keeping with the journal’s mission and meets the requirements described in the guide for authors, a letter of receipt of the contribution is issued. The letter will include a reference key, which must be specified in any subsequent procedure or consultation. Non-compliance with the criteria described in the guide will lead to the return of the manuscript for correction before evaluation.

Once the contribution is accepted in a first review, the Editor in Chief selects an Arbitrator and a Deputy Editor, who are expert peers in the subject for the evaluation of the manuscript. This process is a double-blind review.

The rating assigned by the reviewers, in the Editorial Manager system, can be: accepted, minor revision, major revision and rejection.

If the manuscript was ruled as accepted, it means that it will be published as submitted. If it was deemed to be in need of a minor or major revision, it may be accepted after making the corrections suggested by the experts. Once the author has made the proposed changes, he/she must enter the new manuscript into the system so that it can be sent to the corresponding Deputy Editor for a second review.

This is done until the contribution is either accepted or rejected.

Accepted articles go through a process involving writing and style correction, translation and layout. At each stage the authors will receive an email seeking their approval.
